During the second half of the second ten-day period of January, the agrometeorological conditions were determined by average daily temperatures around, and in many places in Northern Bulgaria above, the climatic norms, but their values did not exceed the biological minimum required for the resumption of vegetative processes in agricultural crops.

January – suitable conditions for winter pruning of fruit crops

At the end of January, a change in the agrometeorological conditions is expected. Below-normal temperature values are forecast, which will maintain perennial plantations and winter cereal crops in dormancy. During the period, in some of the valleys, minimum temperatures down to -12°C are expected, which, if they persist for a longer time in conditions without snow cover, pose a risk to late-sown autumn crops in the initial stages of their development – emergence and initial leaf formation. In wheat and barley, the observed growth stages will be tillering (agro-stations Novachene, Pavlikeni, Yambol, Lyubimets, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Dolni Chiflik, Karnobat), third leaf (agro-stations Knezha, Nikolaevo, Targovishte, Haskovo, Kyustendil), emergence and beginning of leaf formation (agro-stations Bazovets, Sliven, Chirpan).

During the period, the forecast cold and windy weather with snow showers will limit the possibilities for field work and the implementation of winter sanitary and hygienic activities and pruning in fruit species.
