Farmers received support for the 2021 winter treatments

The scheme “Aid for compensating the costs of farmers related to the implementation of measures under the National Programme for the Control of Pests in Permanent Crops during the Winter Period” aims to minimize the losses of farmers from the spread of pests in permanent crops (pome and stone fruit species, strawberries, raspberries and oil-bearing rose).

The State Fund Agriculture has paid over BGN 3.5 million (BGN 3,557,043) under the scheme “Aid for compensating the costs of farmers related to the implementation of measures under the National Programme for the Control of Pests in Permanent Crops during the Winter Period”, implemented in 2021. A total of 3,304 farmers received support; they grow permanent fruit plantations, oil-bearing rose, strawberries and raspberries. For the remaining 177 farmers, payment will be made within short time limits after the finalization of the administrative checks.

The budget under the scheme for 2021 is BGN 6 million.

It should be recalled that the aid is granted in two stages. The first is in spring and covers the period from the end of the frosts until the swelling of the fruit buds. For this period, farmers receive up to BGN 270 per hectare including VAT for plant protection products for pest control purchased against supporting accounting documents.

The funds provided for the second stage are intended to cover part of the costs of fruit and vegetable growers incurred for plant protection products used in autumn, during the period of mass leaf fall and leaf decay. At this stage, financial support is up to BGN 100 per hectare including VAT.

The funds are paid only for plant protection products purchased from persons who are traders within the meaning of the Commercial Act and hold a certificate for trade in plant protection products, pursuant to Article 91, paragraph 1 of the Plant Protection Act, and are entered in the public register of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency for plant protection products authorized for use, pursuant to Article 6, paragraph 1 of the Plant Protection Act.
