Happy holiday!

The long path of plant protection as a scientific community has been marked by numerous difficulties and obstacles since the very inception of this discipline. The responsible task of researching, studying and creating an appropriate environment for high-quality agriculture has always been a priority for agronomists and specialists engaged in this field.

The present and the globalization of the world pose even greater challenges to researchers, compelling them to combine accumulated experience and traditional methods with new requirements and regulations, often encompassing a scope of action beyond plant protection.

Although in the background, plant protection in Bulgaria manages to draw attention to important topics such as the conservation of biodiversity, the precise use of pesticides that are safe for bees and human health, integrated pest management and the development of young experts in the field.

From a historical perspective

On 16 January 1896, by Decree of Prince Ferdinand, the “Law on Measures against Phylloxera Infestation (vine plague) and on the Restoration of Vineyards Devastated by It” was adopted. With this act, the beginning of regulated plant pest control and plant protection activities in our country was officially established.

Plant Protection Day was solemnly celebrated for the first time on 16 January 2006 in the Aula of the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the issuance of the first regulatory act of Bulgaria in the field of plant protection.
