Enhanced control over consignments of imported vegetables and fruit

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has detected the presence of pesticide residues in a consignment of 5 tonnes of tomatoes with country of origin Turkey. The sample for laboratory testing was taken at the border checkpoint „Kapitan Andreevo” in implementation of an Order of the Executive Director of the Agency for enhanced control over consignments of imported fruit and vegetables for the content of pesticide residues. The entire quantity has been seized and directed for destruction.

A further 7,300 kg of cabbage and 4,500 kg of cucumbers, imported from third countries, were found to contain excessive levels of pesticide residues. The samples for laboratory testing were taken at the border checkpoint „Zlatarevo” in implementation of an Order of the Executive Director of the Agency for enhanced control over consignments of imported fruit and vegetables for the content of pesticide residues. The results of the analyses were received on 8 April 2020. The quantities are to be directed for destruction or returned to the country of origin.
