At the end of the past period, precipitation between 10 and 20 l/m2 fell in Northeastern and Northwestern Bulgaria: in Novo Selo – 10 l/m2, Vidin – 16 l/m2, Ruse – 11 l/m2, Razgrad – 10 l/m2 and Silistra – 20 l/m2, which temporarily improved the conditions for the initial stages of development of the winter cereal crops. In the remaining regions of the country, the precipitation was insignificant and there the development of agricultural crops is proceeding with difficulty under a deficit of soil moisture.
During the next seven-day period, the agrometeorological conditions will be determined by warm and predominantly dry weather. The development of agricultural crops, where soil moisture is not a limiting factor, will proceed at a normal pace at temperatures around and above the climatic norm. For wheat, at the agrometeorological stations Pavlikeni and Haskovo the emergence phase will be observed, at the agrometeorological stations Novachene and Silistra – beginning of leaf formation, and at the agrometeorological stations Karnobat, Glavinitsa and Yambol – third leaf.
At the beginning of November, the conditions will be suitable for soil tillage in the fields designated for spring crops, for planting young fruit trees, and for spraying fruit trees with a 5% urea solution after mass leaf fall. Treatments should be carried out in calm weather at wind speeds of up to 2–3 m/s.
