Seminar on Integrated Plant Protection in Greenhouses

On 25 October 2019 in the city of Plovdiv, at the Agricultural University – Plovdiv, a seminar will be held on the topic "Integrated Plant Protection in Greenhouses".

The seminar is organized by the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Growers (BAPOP) and its purpose is to familiarize interested parties with the basic principles and objectives of integrated plant protection, biological requirements regarding temperature, air-gas regime, light, air humidity, soil, crop rotation and others.

The forum will be opened at 10:00 a.m. by the Rector of the Agricultural University, Prof. Dr. Hristina Yancheva, and by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Verginia Krasteva.

In the first part of the event the following will be presented:

• Basic principles and objectives of integrated plant protection

• Biological requirements for integrated plant protection

• Why the use of integrated plant protection in greenhouses is necessary

• Advantages and conditions for successful pest control

• Major pests in tomato, cucumber and pepper

• Main bioagents in tomato, cucumber and pepper

• Strategies for pest control

In the second part of the seminar, projects between BAPOP and partners will be presented. Experts from the National Agricultural Advisory Service (NAAS) will take part by presenting the activities of the Service under the project „Networking European Farms to Enhance Cross Fertilisation and Innovation Uptake through Demonstration“ (NEFERTITI). Under the project, 10 interactive thematic networks have been established, bringing together 45 regional hubs (centres) including farmers organizing demonstrations and institutions related to agriculture (advisers, non-governmental organizations, industry, education, research institutes and policy makers) in 17 countries. The National Agricultural Advisory Service leads and coordinates the activities under Network No. 7 „Improved nutrient use efficiency in horticulture" and Network No. 9 „Reducing pesticide use in grape, fruit and vegetable production“.

In the third (practical) part, a demonstration will be carried out in the „Gard Invest” greenhouse in the town of Rakovski (200 ha). The participants in the seminar will have the opportunity to observe the effect of bioagents in the greenhouse and to gain experience from the renowned specialist in integrated plant protection in greenhouse production Angel Doychinov.
