Poland received the agriculture portfolio in the new EC

On 10 September 2019, the Council of the EU announced that it had approved the submitted list of proposals for the new composition of the European Commission. Ursula von der Leyen, who will assume office as President of the European Commission on 1 November 2019, officially presented the new Commissioners and their portfolios at a regular meeting of the Council of the EU. The new European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development is Janusz Wojciechowski, who will take over the post from Phil Hogan. The current Commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan from Ireland, will receive the “Trade” portfolio.
Janusz Wojciechowski – Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in the new European Commission
Janusz Wojciechowski is a Polish jurist and lawyer, who is currently a member of the European Court of Auditors. In July he was nominated for Commissioner by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The new Agriculture Commissioner was born on 6 December 1954 in Rawa Mazowiecka, Poland. He has been a Member of the European Parliament from the ruling party “Law and Justice” and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Agriculture in the European Parliament from 2004 to 2016.
The announcement of the Council of the EU notes that the list is to be published in the Official Journal of the EU. With this, the procedure moves to the European Parliament, where the nominees for Commissioners will undergo hearings and will be put to a vote.
The new Commissioners are expected to assume office on 1 November with a mandate until 31 October 2024.
