The topic of the September issue of the journal „Plant Protection” is the integrated weed control in autumn-sown crops with full soil coverage, spring row crops and winter oilseed rape.
Weed control is a limiting factor in the production of agricultural crops and the task of farmers to produce quality output in conditions of uncertain phytosanitary and climatic environment in the field is becoming increasingly difficult and responsible. Therefore, it is very important for Bulgarian farmers to overcome their deficits in terms of professional skills in agronomy and plant protection practices and to be always well informed, especially when there is strong competition on the market between leading agrochemical companies and at the same time a major share of the use of plant protection products falls to the illegal trade in counterfeit plant protection products.
The journal „Plant Protection“ has the privilege to publish this topic of the issue, mainly implemented by the young scientific staff in herbology – Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Anyo Mitkov, Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Mariyan Yanev and Assist. Prof. Dr. Nesho Neshev. All of them are lecturers at the Department of „Agriculture and Herbology“ of the Agricultural University in Plovdiv. This young creative team is part of the future of agricultural science in Bulgaria and, as a tradition, will be an inseparable link with agricultural practice.
Thanks to the long-term and fruitful partnership with all major companies from the pesticide business, Prof. Tonev’s team has managed to establish itself as a leader in innovations in the field of weed control – a large-scale and highly responsible sector in the field of plant protection.
